Skin Care During Winter Months

Winter months and dry skin seem to have a tight bond that can be difficult to break. You know the signs of this romance. From chapped lips to flaking and cracks in your skin, breaking up this relationship can be very difficult. However, achieving skin that is rich with hydration, healthy and glowing is not impossible.

Eat Well and Hydrate Your Body

Skin Care During Winter months

We are all probably guilty of ignoring the advice of eating a healthy diet and hydrating our bodies. However, this basic beauty tip is not the one to ignore. Garbage in and garbage out. Our skin often tells the tale of our poor eating and water consumption habits. Flaking, cracks and the ability to write your name on your skin are all signs that your skin is thirsty and that you may not be giving your body what it needs to combat the effects of the harsh winter months.

When we fail to consume foods that are rich in vitamin E, vitamin C, and omega fatty acids, our skin pays the price and gives testimony by appearing dry, parched, cracked and riddled with unsightly ashiness.

You should set a goal to drink a minimum of two liters of water per day. Boost your vegetable and fruit intake, focusing on citrus fruits, green and red peppers, strawberries, broccoli, green leafy veggies, and carrots. Also, consume protein. Even if you are a vegan, make sure you are vigilant in identifying vegan-friendly foods that contain protein that will contribute to your body’s production of collagen which is a vital element that adds to the resilience and elasticity of our skin.

Moisturize Your Skin

Moisturize your skin by choosing skin care products that deliver adequate hydration during winter months. This statement may seem like a “no-brainer,” but it is worth repeating to yourself multiple times. It is only natural to become complacent or assume that your skin will compensate for the loss of humidity and moisture from the air.  Unfortunately, this expectation is unrealistic. You will want to invest in a good moisturizing body lotion for winter months that can give you the best skin of your life.

Here are a few lotions that are winning big praises from its loyal fan base.

Change Your Skin Care Regimen for the Season

If you do not have a skin care regimen for the winter season, do not fret. It’s never too late to adopt a winter skin care regimen. At the first frost or as soon as the temperature begins to dip below 55 degrees, initiate your skin care regimen.  If you stick to this skin care rule of thumb, you will make the transition without missing a beat.

Stay consistent with your application of moisturizing creams, oils or butter to achieve best results. Next, invest in a humidifier. You might be thinking that the only time you ever pull out the humidifier is when you are suffering from a dry throat, dry nose or battling the cold or flu. However, humidifiers are also super beneficial to your skin as it can be a natural way to hydrate your skin!

Finally, indulge in your hot baths or showers with caution. Yes, a hot bath or shower may feel exhilarating after a long day, but they can wreak havoc on your skin, leaving a shell of embarrassingly thick ash.

These are just a few tips to you, and your skin survives winter months. Stay faithful to your winter skin care regimen, and you will see results!
