If you ever wondered if hair extensions can be washed, the answer to that question is YES! Our Aashi Beauty hair extensions line is proudly made with 100% Indian Remy hair. Indian Remy Hair is the highest grade of hair you could find in the market. Typically, Aashi Extensions can last up to 7-10 months or longer! This all depends on how you care for your extensions.
The best way to know how often you should wash your extensions is generally after about 20 wears, or after product build up. If you typically use products such as hairspray or texturizing sprays, chances are these products will eventually build-up on your Aashi Extensions. At this stage when you notice that your extensions are getting more stubborn to style, chances are it’s time for some TLC. Be sure to care for your clip in hair extensions as you would your own hair, I mean after-all they are REAL hair.
Watch the video we made to guide you on how to wash your Aashi Extensions. Remember: The less you wash your extensions the longer they will last!
First step is to brush out the tangles in your extensions. Usually, most will just use a regular brush but we highly recommend that you use a detangling brush. Especially with extensions, a detangling brush it will minimize breakage. Our Aashi Detangling Brush is super gentle that it is safe to use on babies and on our furry friends! You can shop our Detangling Brush for only $6.99 CAD.
When brushing, make sure you start from the bottom and work your way up to the weft. Lay the brushed extensions on a flat surface and begin the next step.
To prepare your sink for the washing process, turn on your faucet and make sure you are using lukewarm water. Plug the drain in your sink and begin filling it up.
Use a small amount of shampoo in the water and swish the water around to make sure that the shampoo is distributed evenly and the water suds up nicely.
The best shampoo to use for extensions are hydrating or moisturizing shampoo that are alcohol-free and sulphate-free shampoos. Please ensure you always use silicone free hair shampoo.
A great recommendation is the Olaplex line
To prevent tangling, make sure you wash each weft one at a time. Take your time to ensure that each weft is washed thoroughly. If you are pressed for time, simply tie the extensions together with an elastic, brush them through to ensure that there are no tangles and then wash them all in one go.
Make sure to be gentle with the extensions and do not rub aggressively as you would with your actual hair.
Make sure to use a sulfate-free conditioner.
Once you are all done with the shampoo-ing, it’s time to condition those babies. Our Aashi Extensions are 100% Indian Remy Hair but they do not have natural oils unlike with our own hair. This is a big reason as to how after we wash away the grime from our extensions that it is essential to put moisture back into our Aashi Extensions.
Using a sulfate-free conditioner will ensure that the color of your extensions will not fade. Take a generous amount of conditioner and apply it to each weft avoiding the top part near the clips. Massage it thoroughly and leave it in for 10 mins. Rinse out each weft and start the next step.
So you are probably wondering, “why do I have to deep condition my extensions when I already condition them?”.
Well, the conditioner might bring some moisture back into your extensions but it only coats each strand with moisture. Meanwhile, using a deep conditioner or a hair mask will ensure that the moisture it offers will penetrate deep into each cuticle of the hair. This will result in a deep hydration and moisturized set of extensions for a long period of time.
Apply a generous amount to each weft and after you have thoroughly conditioned each weft, you can bundle them up together. Typically, you can leave them to soak in the mask for about 20 mins or leave them overnight to help seal the moisture.
Thoroughly rinse out your extensions to make sure there are no residues left on the hair. After washing out each weft make sure to rinse it last with cold water to help the cuticles close and lock in that moisture.
Make sure to ring out the excess water from your extensions. Also, please do not rub your extensions with a dry towel. We highly recommend that you air dry your Aashi Extensions whenever you can. You can lay out all of your wefts on a dry towel on a flat surface. To prevent frizz, apply a small amount of hair oil to each weft and leave them overnight to dry.
IF you find yourself in a situation where leaving them air dry overnight is not an option, don’t worry we have a solution for you. You can use a blow dryer to speed up the drying process but make sure to use a heat protectant to prevent any heat damage. When blow-drying make sure that the air flow is going down on the weft to prevent tangles.
Avoid combing your wet hair extensions. Instead, let them air dry on a clean towel, after they are all dried approximately 24 hours, use a detangling brush to brush through each weft from top to bottom.
